Image of the week: hybrid devices for quantum information

This week’s image of the week comes from a recent JPCM paper exploring the combination of a superconducting flux qubit with an electron spin ensemble as a way of processing quantum information.

The use of superconducting qubits in the search of quantum computation has been observed for several decades. Instead, groups are now focussing their efforts towards combining the well understood properties of different types of qubits with various electron spin ensembles. In Cai et al J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 27 345702, they explore the negatively charged nitrogen vacancy centres in a diamond crystal and are successful in providing a more efficient way of analysing these hybrid devices.
