The first “IOP Young Researchers Meeting” was successfully held on the 23rd and 24th of October at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing.  The event selected two topics from JPCM’s scope, focusing on density functional theory and 2D materials. Twenty-four top young researchers from the Beijing area were invited to give talks with the help of three local organizers Professor Lin Gu (Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor Xinzheng Li (Peking University) and Professor Pu Yu (Tsinghua University). We had around 150 participants to this meeting mainly from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University and Renmin University.

The event was conducted in an interactive format, and provided the participants with a good opportunity to find out more about JPCM and IOP Publishing. The workshop also provided a wonderful platform for young researchers to communicate their latest scientific ideas and set up possible new collaborations.

We hope that this will be the first in a successful series of IOP young researchers meetings in China.
