The last of December’s image of the week features some wise men-worthy gold. But it isn’t really gold at all! But the colour map of these layered FePt/Ag films from Diffusion and solid state reactions in Fe/Ag/Pt and FePt/Ag thin-film systems, G L Katona et al are still seasonal.

This AFM image is taken from a series of images showing the isochrone thermal annealing of bi-layered and tri-layered films, which reveals a similar continuous film morphology.
