Iso-surface of a lattice trap above a mesoscopic disk (c) IOP Publishing 2016

This week’s image is of the iso-surfaces (at |B| = 0.003) for a trap lattice above the central part of a 10 x 10 array of mesoscopic disks from Vladimir Sokolovsky and Leonid Prigozhin 2016 J. Phys. D: Appl. Phys. 49 165006.

Lattice structures could be used to trap and manipulate ultracold atoms for applications in quantum optics and in the creation of Bose–Einstein condensates. The iso-surfaces in the image represent an approximation of the shape of the atom clouds in the trap.
