Polarization conversion of a linearly polarized mode to various vector modes through the rotation of an all-dielectric metasurface wave-plate. Conversion to: a) radial polarization, b) azimuthal polarization, c,d) a superposition of radial and azimuthal modes. Image taken from Tongming Liu et al 2017 J. Phys. D: Appl. This week’s Image of the Week is taken from JPhysD article Polarization conversion based on an all-dielectric metasurface for optical fiber applications,Tongming Liu et al 2017 J. Phys. D: Appl. Phys. 50 334001. In this paper the authors propose polarization conversion in an optical fiber through the introduction of an all-dielectric metasurface, and demonstrate conversions from the linear polarization fundamental mode, to a range of other polarization modes. The image shows a vector representation of the conversion from the linearly polarized mode, into various vector modes.
